We searched for the finest silk to make our scarfs. Our searched led us to Como, Italy. Where Italian silk is produced Lake Como is the region that all true Italian silk comes from. The reason it's there, is because of the mulberry trees! Why are the mulberry trees there? They're there because in 1400 Ludovico Sforza, The Duke of Milan, known to have invented the European renaissance, had them planted.  Silk  was his favorite fabric  and he wanted it Made In Italy. Silk worms can only grow and produce silk on Mulberry trees so the Duke had vast numbers of them planted in Como. This was the start of the famous Italian Silk Industry.  There was a downturn after the world wars due to the loss of may of the Mulberry trees, but a re-plantation and bringing many back to life in the 70s has made Como Italy, once again, the number one maker of silk.
